Children’s Book Day

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

I love books, and I have worked hard to raise book lovers. April 2nd is Children’s Book Day. You know that I’ll be here reading and reading right? In fact, just a week or so ago, I had to buy another bookcase for our children’s books.

I recently added a drop down to our homeschool tab in the menu specifically for book posts. Every post that I have written (and remembered to add) is there. And I will be adding to it as time goes on of course.

Do you have books in your house that are always being read? We sure do, each of us having our own favorites of course.

Austin’s Favorites

The Book With No Pictures – She heard this one in Kindergarten for the first time and couldn’t stop talking about it. I got it for her for Christmas I think and she is still in love with it. As an adult, it is fun to read and to watch their reactions.

She is also a huge Monster High fan… though there aren’t that many children’s books. She does have a few that she really likes. She is growing up fast and moving into chapter books now.

Brookland’s Favorites

Brookland loves to read Barbie and Frozen books. Needless to say we have a lot of leveled readers in those topics.

Gauge’s Favorites

Gauge is in love with his Gauge’s Farm Friends he loves that his picture is in each page layout. It’s perfect as one of his favorite books, but also as a forever keepsake too.

He also loves his Paw Patrol Phonics set books. They are all over the house – we are still learning about picking up books and putting them away.

Momma’s Favorite Books

I have so many favorite children’s books. Berenstain Bear books being in my top picks always. I love the lessons that are in each book, the characters, and just evertything.

One of the books that I can’t read enough is Oh, The Places You’ll Go! I love everything about it, the words – silly and in true Seuss form, the message – you can do anything.

What are your favorite children’t books? Are they the same books that you loved as a child?

Goldie Locks and the Three Bears

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

The other day my 5 year was trying to entertain her sister in the car while we were waiting for Hubby to come out of a store. She started to tell her a story of Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. I thought I would share it here.

“Momma, Dadda and Brother Bear had some oatmeal.
Dadda’s was too hot.
Momma’s was too hot.
Brother bear’s was too cold.”

“So they went for a walk.”

“Goldie Locks came.
She tired Dadda Bear’s oatmeal. It was too hot.
She tired Momma’s. It was too hot.
She tired Brother bear’s it was too cold.”

“The End.”

Our Favourite Classic Books

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

As a child I liked to be read a bed time story, and now Austin does too. It is our down time, and makes for an easier bedtime routine if she knows there is a story waiting at the end. My favorite part of our story time would be that the stories that are her favorite books were my favorites as a child as well.

Berenstain Bears

Berenstain Bears

Who doesn’t love a good Berenstain Bear book? These were my all time favorite as a child and still are and I love how much my kids likes them too. You can buy their DVDs.

Little Critter

Little Critter

Little Critter (Mercer Mayer) books are fun. Austin wasn’t very old when her Great Grandmother gave her one of the books that was Hubby’s from when he was young. These books are great for beginner readers too as the stories aren’t long, the words are easy to ready and there aren’t a lot of words on a page to overwhelm.

Dr Seuess

Green Eggs and Ham

We, sadly don’t have many Dr Seuss books, but we have a few, including the one pictured above. I do tend to borrow them from the library though. They are great beginner read books, repetitive, after all Green Eggs and Ham was written using only 50 words.

Robert Munsch

Love You Forever

Robert Munsch, who doesn’t love these books? They are silly and fun to read. While they tend to be a little long to read they are repetitive, it fact just seeing the cover of Mortimer has the kids song in my head, and I can’t remember the last time we read that one was.

Needless to say, we have a lot of books, and these are only the amazing “classics ones. Not including the counting, ABC’s, Dora the Explorer and other books that they also have.

I am a big fan of reading, I can dive into one and stay for hours, if my kids are sleeping. Role modeling reading is almost as important as reading to your children. Most children want to be big and do things like Mom and Dad.

Does your family have favorites that they like to read?
