Little Passports – Science Expeditions

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

I have often heard homeschoolers often say that they find science intimidating when you are planning, and when it comes to following through. I happen to like science, love having hands on things to do with my kids which is why we are loving the science expeditions from Little Passports. They are making science fun for parents as well as kids now.

Science Expeditions

Our first delivery blew my mind and I cou;dn’t wait to get my kids on it. The bag alone is amazing, it is going to last a good long while, even with inpatient fingers grabbing at it, and it is not a cloth bag. Can you imagine how dirty that would get having it near experiments? The bag is easy to wipe which I just love!

Our first set of experiment is Forensic, which included A Very Berry DNA Extraction, Hints From Prints (my kids love finger printing!), and Splatter Studies (which we did yesterday).

Not everything you need is included, for example the (straw)berry and they are not in season here so we haven’t gotten to do that one yet but we will! But out of the three experiments that’s the only thing we don’t already have in our house. Included are the things that you may don’t have in your house such as test tubes and a test tube holder, you can see the rest in the picture below.

Also included in a “comic” book, we have fun reading this before we get into the science, it’ a great introduction, something I love about the Little Passports subscriptions in general. The book also introduces new words and the meanings of them.

The Lab Notebook is perfect for making notes before, during, and after each experiment. There are also a couple pages for you to stick your badge from each fit.

We already can’t wait to get our next month box in the mail.

Oh, and when doing the Spatter Studies I recommend grabbing a big box to lay your paper in, it will save you a clean up. When you are holding the dropper 3 feet in the air there is gonna be a mess. You can see the red up the side of the box, and somehow we still ended up with some on the floor, oh well we tried. We fun which is the main thing.

Top Easter Gifts – Ideas to Get You Started

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

What do Easter gifts look like in your house? Big and splashy? Small and simple? We tend to go both ways. One year there are a trampoline in our backyard from the bunny, one year a bike. But we try really hard to not go to big and flashy.

Gifts from the Dollar Store

I’ll be transparent: I go to the dollar store first. That is where I start shopping for Easter gifts for my kids. Its the price range I love. Plus, I’m not too worried what XYZ get chewed by the dog, or when the wind blows it into a field two miles away.

Bubble wands – these disappear throughout the summer, all summer

Pool toys – balls, dive sticks, loungers – these blow away, or we take them to the public pool and sometimes forget them

Easter baskets – they get broken and throw out within a day so I’m not wasting money on them

Plastic egg fillers – I only get them from the dollar store, small fun things

Gardening tools – Time to start thinking about digging in the yard

Gifts from Other Stores (ie: Amazon)

Amazon is my go to “place” to shop from now that my kids are older and notice what I am putting in the shopping cart now. Delivered to the door in a box that I can stash away. Here are some ideas for kids Easter gifts I’ll be buying this year:

Sports Equipment – a soccer ball, a baseball bat, etc.

Bubbles – I just don’t care for them from the dollar store, plus they are still really cheap from somewhere like Walmart

New Outfit – I always get my kids one spring/summer outfit

Chocolate! – Need I say more? We don’t give a lot but you need chocolate for Easter

Seeds – Kids love to watch things grow, maybe some fast growing peas/beans, something that they can eat too

Subscription Based Gifts

Bramble Box – let their imagination take them away

Green Kid Crafts – learn something new, like about space!

Little Passports – explore the USA or the World

Bean Box – Holiday Gift Guide

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

I am Momma, hear me bagging for coffee? Bean Box has given us a way out of running out of coffee. They deliver it, conveniently, to your door. I know I can’t be the only one to ever wish that you could have coffee delivered to your door. While it isn’t a steaming cup ready for you to sip, opening the box alone is enough to perk you up.

“Whether you’re looking to expand your palate or fill your morning cup, we have a plan for you that doesn’t include running to the store. Only want dark roasts? Done. Need to skip a month? Easy.”

We love trying new and different flavors of coffee looking for the next great cup, but we don’t always love every bag we’ve bought, so we end up with a lot of coffee that we don’t necessarily enjoy. Bean Box helps. Four samples. Love something then you have the option to buy it since they make sure you know what coffees you received, simply head to their site to find it.

Bean Box partners with Seattle’s top independent coffee roasters to curate and deliver the highest quality, freshly-roasted coffee to their customers.

How does Bean Box work?

They hand pick coffee from Seattle’s top-rated roasters every month.
Ship the beans to you or your lucky gift recipient in a handsome Bean Box.
You brew and enjoy delicious coffee with each unique roast.

You can find them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Nerd Block – Subscription Addiction

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

Checking the mail is a big event here. We get parcels from grandparents, my grandmother bought them a magazine subscription, their Little Passports and any of the little surprises that show up. Each day I hear “anything for me?!”, and sadly often I’m stuck saying no.

Then we got out Nerd Blocks! We received a Nerd Block Jr Girls and Boys. Your Nerd Block is a mystery box full of themed nerd gear.
