Keeping Track of EVERYTHING in Google Sheets

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

There is a lot going on in my head a lot of the time. I write everything down, otherwise I lose whatever information I need. Google Sheets has been very helpful. Homeschooling and online schooling families want flexibility. They want the freedom to work when they want, where they want, without being tied to a desk in a classroom. One tool that can help provide that flexibility is Google Drive.

I have a number of different sheets in my Google Drive. Some of them are:

  • homeschool curriculum choices for the coming year
  • blog posts – no doubles please
  • online courses I have purchased for myself – plus log in info
  • online courses for my kids – plus log in info
  • and more!

How to Use Google Sheets

All you need to get started with Google Sheets is a gmail account. If you have any experience with Microsoft Excel then you’ll know exactly how to use Sheets.

How to Use it for Homeschooling

Keeping Track of Curriculum

I had a spread sheet set up while I was figuring out what curriculum I wanted to use for this coming year, for each of my kids. I like to color code it so that at a glance I can see what is going on. (And this is not complete for the coming year.)

Keeping Track of Chores

Use it  to keep track of everything that you have going on each each. This can be keeping track of:

  • Tracking community service hours for your children
  • Budgeting for you and your children
  • Trip planning
  • Rewards system/payment for chores etc
  • Use it as a planner for your lessons

Top 5 Android Apps for Moms

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

Recently I shared that our girls in gymnastics and dance each week, we’re trying to get to the local ice rink a couple times a week, Austin is in school a few days a week and we try to hit the local library for Story Time. We’re busy and we love it for the most part.

I have tried many different Android apps on my phones, some I love, some I have deleted because it wasn’t quite what I was looking for or some other reason. Recently I upgraded my cell phone (thanks to my in-laws for the money for Christmas), now with more space on my phone I’m trying and using more apps.

My favorite, use everyday Android apps that I think you’ll love too are:

Evernote

FREE. I’ve shared a few times now that I really love this app. I have been using it more and more lately. I have the free version, you can get the premium and more usage. With the free you get 60 MB a month and connected to two devices, I have very close to hitting 60 MB and will probably need to upgrade at some point.

I use it for a rough draft of blog post ideas, for full post writing (specifically for other blogs). I have a Notebook for each site I write for, and in each a note with different ideas that I would like to write about. I also have a daily note with a checklist of things I want to get done each day.

Artkive

FREE. I won’t lie, I upgraded mainly please of this app. I couldn’t get it on my older one. I love it! It is perfect for the art work Austin brings home from school and what they all are doing. Simply take a picture and it is stored. You don’t have them saved to your phone, so it isn’t taking up storage space.

Out of Milk

FREE. I tried this one in the past but didn’t care for it. Now, I am using it everyday. I have multiply shopping lists (Costco, Wal-Mart and Dollarama), there is a pantry list and there is a to-do list, but I haven’t started using that one. There is a paid version of this as well.

UPDATE   Hubby now has this app on his phone, we sync’d them, and it has made grocery shopping a heck of a lot easier. He is able to add something to a list if he thinks of it while working instead of trying to remember it till he gets home. If there are things I want him to pick up after work I can add it.

Temperature

FREE. I take my kids temperature under their arm. I know how to do this in Celeuis, I know I’m suppose to add a degree (as I was told by our doctor). Give me a thermometer in Fahrenheit and I have no idea what to add. Just like I don’t know what the conversion is from one to the other so this app does it for me.

Google Sheets

FREE. I am new to using these, but I’m also relatively new to using an editorial calendar. I am using one that came with the Content Brew, and with it on Google sheets, I have access to it all the time. I also have a spreadsheet for my blogging/freelance income and expenses.

What are your must have apps?
