5 Easter Traditions to Start this Year

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

As my kids get older I’m realizing more and more just how important the time we spend together is. Today I’ve gathered up 5 fun Easter traditions you can start with your family. These are some fun family traditions will help your family have an extra fun things to do this Easter.

Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt

  • Plastic Easter Eggs – medium – large size work best
  • Glow Sticks – smaller ones that fit into your Easter eggs
  • Tape
  • Candy

Easter Bunny Foot Prints

Cut out this bunny foot print template and leave a trail around your home. I’ve seen people using powdered sugar, flour, baking soda, or baby powder for footprints. Just keep in mind any pets you may have in your home and their safety.

Peep S’Mores

  • Peeps
  • Hershey’s chocolate squares
  • Graham crackers

Place graham crackers, chocolate and a peep as shown in first picture. Zap in the microwave until soft. (Or place under broiler.) Top with another graham cracker square.

Easter Egg Pancakes

  • Pancake recipe – this is our recipe for fluffy pancakes but any recipe or mix will do the job
  • Food color

Divide your pancake batter into smaller bowls to dye different colors before cooking. Add a bit more fun with pancake molds.

Mini Egg Cookies

Mini Eggs are delicious just the way they are and I am a huge fan of them. I can’t get enough of them. If you are looking to spread them out though make some cookies. Two of our favorite ways to enjoy them, as cookies and not straight out of the package, are:

To use them in place of jam in Thumb Print Cookies. A little dot of chocolate or vanilla frosting to hold them in place.

Use them in place of chocolate chips in Chocolate Chip Cookies. You might want to go a little lite on the mini eggs because they are a lot of chocolate.

40 Ideas for Filling an Easter Basket

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

Sometimes ideas for filling an Easter basket can leave you stumped. What do you put in your child’s Easter basket? Do you have some things that always end up in an Easter basket like we do? Things like bubbles.

In the past I have shared some of the ways that we fill Easter baskets without breaking the bank for us frugal shoppers.

Here are some fun, non-candy, non-chocolate ideas for you. This year I am doing something a little different, instead of using a Easter basket, or something that is just going to take up space, I got large sand buckets to use instead. They’ll be heading outside with them, not in my house taking up space.

Fruit cups… take it a step farther and draw a little bunny or chick face on the top.

Snack punches

A bottle of water

Goldfish crackers

An apple or orange

Juice packs

Gum

Apple sauce

Arts and Crafts

Chalk

Crayons, markers

Paint for in the house or for outside

Stamps for paper

Pencils

Easter craft kit

Bead kits – jewelry making kits

Playdough – store bought or homemade

Pads of paper – construction paper

Stencils

Personal

Nail Polish

Crayola Bath Color Drops

Handbands

Hair Elastics

Socks

Flip flops

Summer hat

A loopa

Lip balm

Outside

Bubble wands

Dirt/sand toys

Jump rope

Hola Hoops – I know they don’t fit in a basket, but they are cheap, and my kids love them.

A helmet and/or protective elbow pads, etc.

A baseball

Sunglasses

Garden tools

Rubber boots – so important to have awesome new boots!

Seeds for them to plant

More Ideas

Reuseable water bottle

Reuseable snack containers

A book

What type of things would you add to this list? What are the things that you add to your kids Easter basket each year?

Easter Books We’re Reading

by Ashley Mullen Leave a Comment

I love reading holiday themed books with my kids, Easter books are hitting our bookshelves now. We have some favorites that we love reading. All three of my children love books (like these classics, and our favorite winter books). This is how I raised them, I always have a couple books on the go myself, and we spend as much time as possible at the library.

Easter Book for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Easter Books We’re Reading

I started reading to my kids the moment I found out I was pregnant with Austin and haven’t stopped yet.

*This post contains affiliate links, see my disclosure policy for more information.*

Let’s start with everyone’s favorite Little Critter. I love how easy these are to read, great for beginner readers.

Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter is celebrating Easter in this classic, funny, and heartwarming book. Whether he’s dyeing eggs, searching for baskets, or snacking on sweets

Little Critter is very excited on Easter morning. He wakes up to find a present from Mom and Dad—a bunny named Egg. But there is much to be done before Little Critter can go out and play.

Berenstain Bear books are one of my absolute favorites to read with my kids, they have great lessons presented in a fun way.

Easter Books

On Easter morning, the cubs find the best surprise of all in their Easter basket: a tiny baby bunny. When the Bear family goes on an Easter egg hunt, the bunny has an idea of its own. It wants to find other Easter babies!

The Berenstain Bears are back in this Easter adventure! Spring is here, the sun is shining, and the Berenstain Bears are getting ready for the Easter parade!

All three of my kids love Lego: books, movies, and my girls love building with their Lego.

There’s never a dull moment in LEGO(R) City, not even on Easter!

It’s Easter morning, and all the animals have come together to join in the Easter Parade. Follow the Easter Bunny as he leads ducks, chicks, rabbits, and more springtime animals as they wear their Easter best, carry balloons, play instruments, and march in the parade .

Peter Cottontail is out sick, and there’s only one dinosaur who’s up to the task of delivering his eggs on Easter: T. Rex! All T. Rex has to do is work on hopping—without the wiggle.

Gauge is a big fan of Pete the Cat, so we have been enjoying these often.

When Pete wakes up Easter morning, ready to check out his basket of goodies, he discovers the Easter Bunny needs a little extra help.

Sing along with Pete the Cat in his fun adaptation of “Five Little Monkeys.” Fans of Pete the cat will love rocking out to this classic tune with a groovy Easter twist in this hardcover picture book.

We have two girly girls so Pinkalicious is right up our alley.

When Pinkalicious wakes up on Easter morning, she finds a note from Edgar Easter Bunny that sends the Pinkerton family on an eggsciting Easter scavenger hunt!

Easter Holiday Books

We try to find books for every holiday and season. It’s a great way to get them excited about it, get you excited about it too. Plus, its reading. Reading out loud to your kids has great affects long time. Encourages them to be life long readers and learners.

I have books all over our house to encourage reading. My girls have a small bookcase in their room full of books they find interesting. We have books for all three of them in the living room. Books are everywhere.

What type of books are you reading right now?
