Backyard Summer Camp: Spy School

Who doesn’t want to go to spy school? My six-year-old is always pretending to be a spy and is spying around corners on his sisters. Let’s have a full week of Backyard Summer Camp spy school and turn our kids into the best spies that they can be.

I don’t believe that we should have our kids scheduled for every minute of every day. My kids don’t expect me to entertain them. I’m pretty sure that the only time they tell me that they are bored and expect me to entertain them is because I am doing something very exciting, like cleaning a toilet. Yes, apparently that is my kids’ idea of a fun time.

Spy School Activities

Spy Name – Make up spy names! Who will you be? Will anyone be able to guess who you are based on your spy name?

Make a Spy Decoder – Use the spy decoder to write and read secret messages. You could even create your own secret decoder. You can get your own decoder here.

Invisible Ink – So many ways to cover this! One way is to use one lemon cut in half, and squeeze it into a small bowl. Dip a paintbrush or Q-tip into the lemon juice and then write your secret message on the paper. Let the juice dry completely.

To read the message hold the paper 6″ from a light bulb.  The heat of the light bulb (which can not be an LED bulb) will make the message appear! As an adult, you can also use an iron to iron over the message.

Fingerprint Matching – This is super simple. Packing tape. Packing tape can lift fingerprints off many surfaces. You can use clay, or playdough to press your fingers into it and you can see your fingerprints firmly into the clay to see what type of fingerprint you have.

Footprint Trail – Follow footprints around the yard. Momma, go hide somewhere and see if your kids can follow your footprints to find you. 😉

How are you making the best of your summer?
