Google Drive for Homeschool

I started using Google drive this year for keeping track of our homeschool periodic logs and work samples. I also used it to keep track of what I liked or didn’t like about curriculum we were using so I could remember or not I want to use it again in the future. And the great thing about it is, that you can access it from anywhere!

As I mentioned I started using Google Drive to keep our periodic logs and work samples this year, things I have to submit to the school board at the end of the school year. This allows me to keep track no matter where we are. As mentioned in a previous post, all you need to be able to use Google Drive, is a gmail account, which is free.

Work Offline Google Drive

The best part is that you do not need to be online to use it. I can be anywhere and update our periodic log, even sitting outside at an event without wifi or turning my data on. Which means I’m not going to forget to add something important by trying to remember it later, or using my limited data.

Shared Work with Google Drive

It is super easy to share documents in Drive. As long as the person you are trying to share with has a gmail account (email) then you can share with them. You can give them permission to make changes to the document you are sharing with them as well, and you’ll be able to see the changes they make. This is great for working with students and others.

Using Google Drive on All Devices

I do not have Apple products, but I did look it up and from what I read, you can use google Drive on your iPad just the same as other devices, you just have to download it.

Create Folders for Easy Filing/Organizing

You can create files, and then files withing your files to make it easier to keep track of everything, no more scrolling and searching for a file. I have been changing the color on my folders to make it a little easier to pick out the one I am looking for. If you color coordinate things, this is for you. Right click on the folder and you will see need the bottom where you can change the colors.

Google Drive Folders

Using Google Drive in your homeschool can help you to cut down on paper waste, and from papers getting “lost”, or for the need of finding lost pencils. It’s perfect if you are thinking about zero waste homeschooling, or limiting your waste.
