Turkey Toilet Roll Craft for Thanksgiving

It’s turkey time! Not only are we eating turkey but we are making some cute turkey toilet rolls. They make great pieces for your holiday table, or where ever else you would like them to go. They are an easy craft for your kids to make this afternoon.

It’s super simple, perfect for your youngest, and makes a great addition to your Thanksgiving decorations.

What you need:

  • paper plates cut in half
  • paint
  • an empty toilet paper roll
  • glue

Toilet paper roll crafts are one of the most popular and classic recycled crafts out there, especially when it comes to crafting with kids. These often adorable and always cheap craft ideas are a great way to teach kids all about reusing and recycling products in the home.

You could also use paper towel tubes, tubes from wrapping paper, and such.

Cut your paper plates in half.

Then paint your turkey’s tail feathers. Let your kids paint them however they want. Some of those that graced our home had stripped tail feathers.

Our toilet paper rolls were brown so we didn’t bother to paint them, but we did glue some googly eyes on them.

I also chose to staple our turkeys together so they would hold together better than if we used glue.

I love this little craft for all age groups.

Alternately, instead of cutting the paper plate before painting, it may be easier for younger children to paint first, having a larger “canvas” is easier. Either way, a beautiful turkey.

You could easily do this same craft for any type of bird, peacocks could be beautiful this way after a trip to the zoo or park.

Now you’ll have some turkey decorations while you enjoy a meal with your family and your kids will feel like they had a part in it.

How Sanitary are Toilet Paper Rolls for Crafting?

Yes, there are germs in the bathroom. Just like every other part of your house. But the bathroom does have the poop factor. Personally, I don’t worry too much about it as we are healthy, keep a clean house, and aren’t chewing on the toilet paper roll crafts.

How to Sanitize Toilet Paper Rolls

Set your rolls out in the sun. Sitting out in the sun should help kill off any bacteria that might be lingering.

Spray down tubes with Lysol or wipe them down with a Clorox wipe.
