Resources for Learning Multiplication

We will start working on multiplication next year in our homeschool. But some of these ideas… especially those towards the end, are so great. You can easily revamp some of these ideas to be done with addition and subtraction as well. Look out math, here comes the fun!

You can also have fun with math by playing board games as I mention in 10+ Board Games for Education Fun.

I’m not the greatest at remembering my multiplication tables. I’ll be freshening up on those skills as I teach my daughters. I do remember most, just not seven and up…

We’re all ready for a new way of learning multiplication tables. Happily, inventive educators have created a multitude of activities to help learners succeed, have fun, and appreciate how times tables fit into everyday life!

Here is a round-up of some of the most engaging times table activities that serve all sorts of learning (and teaching!) styles, including video, music, printable worksheets, dominoes, and more.

Math Centers and Flashcard Practice

Multiplication booklets like the ones above are great for learning and practicing multiplication with your kids. I have ours printed out, and laminated so we can use them again and again as we go along.

My kids use these as practice. They are really great for them checking their work on their own as well.

Times Tales

This is my favorite multiplication resource for my kids!

Times Tales teaches kids the upper times tables without rote memorization. Students can simply follow along with the entertaining story. As they progress, they’ll be guided into associating the stories they’ve learned with real math. You can find the Times Tales DVD here.

It includes:

  • Animated videos
  • Printable worksheets and flashcards

Times Tales Downloadable Videos & Printable Worksheets

There are two DVDs you just watch on your computer (rather than TV) and the printables come in 3 PDF files to print out the tests, crossword puzzles, flashcards, & cube games.
