Back in Nova Scotia there is the Discovery Centre in Halifax. I always wanted to take the girls there, and their cousins if I was brave enough. However, we no longer live close enough to go, and there is never enough time during vacations. Then we learned of the Saskatchewan Science Centre.
It is only an hour away from us.
Hubby had a week of vacation so during the week we headed up to the city for fun and shopping. First stop was the science centre. Of course, as usual, we didn’t tell the girls where we were going. Austin, being the smarty pants that she is put 2 and 2 together as we were pulling into the parking lot.
The main reason for the timing of this visit was that they currently have a Dinosaur Exhibit there until September 28th. We had talked of different dinosaur places that are area but they are at least 5 hours away, this was perfect timing.
I had forgotten my camera so I took pictures on Hubby’s cell phone – 150 pictures. Here are just a few of those.
A good number of the dinosaurs were interactive. The information board for them had a silhouette of the dinosaur with buttons on different parts of their bodies. With a press of a button, that part of the dinosaur would move. Austin love this part!
They made noises on their own. Some just randomly, others by sensor when you walked by them.
There were a IPads at a couple displays. When you picked them up and pointed them at a certain point you could see hidden things. One showed eggs hatching. It was quite cool.
Both girls enjoyed the fossil digging. Brookland did not like the dinosaur exhibit at all. She is very sensitive to noises so if freaked her out from the beginning. Hubby had to carry her through it.
Once we had made it through the dinosaur exhibit, we moved on to the rest of the center.
The Terminal Office was cute. There was information about farming. The kids could look under microscopes at some of the pests in the area.
Austin was getting ready to step in/on some cow paddies. She laughed so hard!
Wouldn’t be the right if there wasn’t a train somewhere along the way.
It was so much fun standing in the waiting line for this. No one could get the bubble to go all the way up. They were slowly pulling the rope, and POP! every time. Hubby and the kids got the bubble to go completely up and around them a number of times. The key: pull it fast!
This room was fun! In the picture above we are all there.I’m to the left, the weird looking growth on my leg would be Gauge in his stroller. The screen flashed through a number of different motion sensor screen.
There was so much more there, but there was no way I was going to show you 150 pictures! We also learned about making cotton candy, Austin helped out with the demo, and then we got to buy a couple bags of it.
There were indoor and outdoor playgrounds.
Basically, it was AWESOME! We are going to be heading back this summer I think. Austin wants to take Gramma and Aunt Sharon to see the dinosaurs. Brookland, Gauge and I will just enjoy the rest of the centre.
