When you were expecting your first baby, what do you wish you knew then that you know now?
As the time comes for this little guy to be born I can’t help but think back to when I was pregnant for the first time. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Sure I knew that there would be sleepless nights and days, endless diaper changes, feedings and such, but I didn’t have a clue what was really in store for me.
I wish I had know to learn about breastfeeding before she arrived. I thought it was something that just naturally happened. WRONG! Needless to say this first time mom decided it was best for us to go with formula. It’s what was right for us.
I wish I had known about modern cloth diapers. I hated the money literally being thrown in the garbage. But I was under the impression that cloth diapers were the same as when my grandparents used them. No pins for me.
I wish I had had a wrap or sling. Austin was a very cuddly baby, refusing to sleep without being in our arms for at least the first 7 weeks. I might have gotten a little more done had I had our wrap.
I wish I had told people to back the *beep* off. I still need to do this every so often. I know what is best for my child, I don’t need to be told what to do, not then not now.
One thing I that doesn’t change from first baby to last baby: I can’t wait to hold them, watch them grow, learn and become their own person. And I continue to hope that I don’t screw them up too badly.
What about you, what do you wish you knew then that you know now?
