I have been spending the summer cooking and baking in my slow cooker. I am working on reducing the heat in the house and reducing our energy cost with it. But I still want to feed my family full meals and enjoy delicious, tasty desserts, like this one.
What you need:
How to make Slow Cooker Apple Crisp
Start with 4-5 apples. Peeled and sliced. I use my apple slicer to get the job done faster so I can get on to other things like taking my kids outside. I used Gala apples as that’s what was in my fridge as they are our favorite apples to snack on.
Lightly butter the inside of your slow cooker, and lay the apple slices in the bottom, making sure to cover the whole bottom.
Next we are going to combine the sugar, flour, rolled oats, nutmeg and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. This is your topping which you are going to sprinkle over the base of apples. Top with 4 tbsps of butter. Just drop them on top.
Cook on low for 3-5 hours.
I couldn’t get enough of this! While it didn’t have the full toasty/crispiness that oven baked has, it was still there just not the whole top of it. Hubby said it didn’t quite make the mark for him. The girls loved it like their Momma. It was better than my microwave apple crisp, which you could also make to beat the baking heat if you don’t have a slow cooker.
Do you do less baking in the summer as well? If you have a favorite slow cooker dessert recipe? I’d love to have you share it!
