Yeast Infection Rash – Just Another Diaper Washing Day

I knew when we started with cloth diapers that it wouldn’t be without its bumps in the road, and we’ve had a couple now. Our biggest dilemma up to now was repelling.

Now baby girl Brookland has had a sore bum on and off for just about two months, 2 months! This Momma has felt horrible, it started after we switched to formula, so naturally we thought she was having a reaction to it, and tried a different kind. Her little bum got better, then worse.

Friday morning, at 9:15 I was able to get through to the pediatrician’s office, at 10am. I guess I should add that we got about 6 inches of snow Thursday night and early Friday morning. We all had to get dressed and out of the house. We ended up being 15 minutes late, but thankfully in this case, these doctor is usually running behind.

He diagnosed her bum as a yeast infection rash. Some cream was prescribed and we were sent home. From reading other CD blogs I know that my diapers need to be cleaned really well to make sure that once her rash is gone it doesn’t come back.

All diapers have been washed in very hot water with baking soda and detergent, the first rinse with vinegar followed by two more rinses. I also dried them in the dryer only, something I never do.

Have you had this problem? What did you do?

Where I Went Wrong with Cloth

If you happened to catch my blog, Facebook and Google + post Saturday night you know I was desperate to save my cloth stash.

Saturday while my parents were visiting I changed B’s diaper only to have her soaked within 15-20 minutes. Odd, clean diaper nice and snug. I changed her and found a very dry insert. I ran water over the pocket, it repelled. I tried another clean one and got the same results.

Everything went into the wash with some Dawn. Thankfully I have some Walmart flats and covers for emergencies like this. I did a hot washed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed and rinsed again, if not more. Still repelling. Added a hot rinse. Used vinegar in rinses.

I did another hot wash with a hot rinse. Scrubbed them by hand in hot water with a drop of Dawn. I washed and rinsed so many times I lost count. I was worried. This is what my diapers were doing:

Isn’t that just picture perfect? This is after MANY washes and rinses.
I am happy to say I did save my cloth. How? I went back to what I knew. Tide Free & Gentle. I had used it before, from the beginning until I was reading how many people were using Dawn only instead. I had tried it, found no problems, thought “hey its a lot cheaper why not?”. Lesson learned. One wash with a small amount of Tide with two rinses with a little vinegar and we are back in business, and without use of one disposable diaper.
I have no idea why this happened, I hope it never happens again, but I do know that I will be using Tide Free & Gentle for diapers from now on.
Have you ever had to buy some disposable diapers because yours were unable to be used?

Cloth Diaper Dilemma

What I am about to show you has me just about crawling up the walls. I have washed with Dawn, rewashed without Dawn, rinsed (many times) and rinsed with vinegar twice.

This is still our out come. This water had been sitting there for minutes while I got my camera. I pray that the load I have in the washer are fine so that I have diapers for the morning otherwise we’ll be heading to town for ‘sposies.

If anyone can help, please do.

Ugh Saturday Night Supper

Somehow I am cooking the supper that I was hoping to pawn off onto Hubby. But somehow I am cooking and burning Shepherd’s Pie. Not the healthiest (until I add a shit load of veggies) but better than the leftover pancakes I thought of first. Hubby has gone out again for the evening/night. What was suppose to be a coffee and a little off-roading with some guys started at 4pm! The last time, he didn’t get home till 1am, though they definitely didn’t leave at 4pm. [Read more...]

Solid Foods = Ewww!

OK, so past the ‘woo-hoo baby girl is lovin’ her solids’ thing. Solid food = solid poops.

So, cloth diapering Mommas and Dadas, what do you do? Do you have a sprayer? Another method? Because at this point I’m not sure what to do, we don’t really have the extra cash right now to get a spray and then maybe not like it or not use.

So….
