Making Homemade Steak Sauce

Steak sauce. I love me some steak sauce. While I love steak, well done, steak sauce is just the perfect touch, an extra boost of flavor. Homemade Steak sauce is just that much better. This recipe is simple, and doesn’t require a lot of ingredients.

Just like most other condiments, I don’t buy this ever. I don’t know the last time that I bought it. Why buy something that you can easily make.

When you make your own condiments you can make it to your and your family’s taste. There are so many different options when you buy steak sauce, but your own flavors, in your kitchen, are endless.

For Father’s Day I choose to make my slow cooker Bacon and Cheese Chicken. One of the ingredients is, you guessed it, steak sauce. Because I don’t usually have it on and I made some.

Bacon & Cheese Chicken

I would be willing to bet that you already have everything you need to make this, right in your cupboard and fridge. Check out this list:

What you need:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 large garlic clove minced
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

How to make this homemade sauce:

It’s super simple. Measure everything into a small pot. Heat to just boiling, reduce heat, and simmer. Stirring occasionally until it has thickened up.

Steak sauce

It only takes about 10-15 minutes.

Wait until it has cooled then transfer to a jar or container for storing in the fridge. You can keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

There is no rule that says you can only use steak sauce on steak.

As a child, I used to love to dip my boiled potatoes into it. My father hated it, but it added and still does add, great flavor to what can be plain old boring boiled potatoes.

My two youngest, Brookland and Gauge, love ranch dressing on their potatoes and carrots, just like their Dad. Not me, I am not the biggest fan of ranch.
