I recently received a copy of Ooka Island Adventure to review with Austin (4yrs). It wasn’t what I was expecting, I didn’t see how a computer program could teach a child to read. I am happy to say I was presently surprised with the program. We don’t allow much computer time, if any to be honest, as this was a special treat.
The first time she played she loved it, and I was impressed.
They focused on the S sound getting her to recognize it and distinguish it from other sounds. Then to recognize the letter itself. On the fun continued. She was read a short story/book, with questions ask afterwards. After reading the book she got a sticker to place on her learning path and a book placed on her bookshelf.
She didn’t want to stop playing but there are worksheets to go along with the books. It is more than just computer time/game playing.
