Do you buy organic? Have you thought about buying organic? Maybe you have wondered why you would want to be buying organic. Or maybe perhaps grow your own?
I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to ending out to farmers markets this summer. One reason we go is Austin loved the experience of going, whether or not we bought something, just seeing everything offered. Another reason, I love supporting local anything. Local farmers for the delicious fresh produce, often which is cheaper than buying in a store, fresher and if you ask, likely to be organic.
Last spring/summer we spent hours and dollars putting in a small garden and green house back in Nova Scotia. Some things we bought already started, some things such as beets, green onions, lettuce and pumpkins from seeds. Austin was out there everyday checking to see if there was anything poking out of the ground.
We learned a hard lesson last summer though. Slugs are hard to get rid of! And we were very against using chemicals in our garden for a couple reasons. Cats. My CHILDREN! My children touch everything, and we wanted them hands on in our garden. Also, a few weeks after having Austin, I had to take my cat to the vet -in the end to euthanized- because she has gotten in a garden and into slug bait. Horrible experience.
Another hard lesson was, when you move and your garden is in the ground, you don’t get to take it with you.
This year, we’ll be container gardening. What? I’m not sure. But we’ll have fun spending time together, and then enjoy eating the fresh vegetables from our garden.
