For our last weekend in Nova Scotia thought it would be nice to have a few children over for a last play date, children that Austin and Brookland have grown up with and been playing with since they all were young.
We are getting low on toys, both of the inside and outside variety, so I figured a nice sunny day, we’d spent the afternoon outside. We have a shade/bug tent for anyone wanting to get out of the sun, and with babies I wanted to provide shade.
I had made up some ice cubes, lots of colours and completely forgot about them, I also had had shaving cream set out on the table to take outside for the kids to play with / use up so I didn’t have to pack it, but I had ran out of hands for carrying stuff.
In the end I took a mini muffin tin and filled it with the last of our paint (woohoo don’t have to pack that!) took some large Dora colouring pages and paint brushes out.
After painting some paper they moved on to painting the tote I had used for carrying the paint supplies out in and then some rocks. There may have been some body painting involved as well, but only a little.
Now, I try to be prepared for whatever my child wants to do or has already done. So why didn’t I think to put her in a bathing suit when I had gotten Hubby to fill the kiddie pool with fresh water? I wasn’t thinking at all.
That is one soaked Austin. But she had fun and that was my plan for the afternoon. The sprinkler had been going, the slide was up right for awhile and then explored upside down for awhile.
There were bike rides, bubbles, balls, dogs (the fake blue kind), rocks, cloud dough and all kinds of other fun to be had. My girls had a last play date and lots of fun.
And this Momma got a bedtime that was fought because they were so played out.
