One Pot Easy Homemade Hamburger Helper

Pasta, pasta and more pasta seems to fill my cupboards. It’s not something we eat a lot of, it just hangs out in our cupboard waiting for the day when we are getting low on groceries. Well, today was it’s lucky day. I made a rather damn good hamburger helper.

Delicious! As I started simmering the ground beef for the hamburger helper, I got a craving for cornmeal muffins and thought they would be amazing with this, and they were, of course. Plus if all else fails my kids would eat something at least if they decided tonight would be a picky night.

This is a great rainy day or cold winter day supper, filling and warm. It also makes for great leftovers, easy to reheat, pack for lunch. The kids love it because they (being younger) can use their fingers, making it that much easier for them to eat… and make a mess with.

Brown your beef, rinse off any fat. I try to use extra lean ground beef, but I still rinse off my browned beef, just to get any extra fat off it.

Add your water, milk and spices. Bring to a boil, turn down to a simmer, add macaroni and stir in the cheese.

Simmer until thickened, about 15 minutes. We topped ours with a little tex mex cheese, another attention grabber for my kids.
