Messy Friday: Toothpaste Putty

Early in the afternoon the girls requested play dough. Ugh, ours needs to be thrown out and we have no flour. So internet  here I come. I found some interesting recipes but I couldn’t get over the idea of making putty out of toothpaste. Toothpaste putty, sounds odd doesn’t it?

On Monday I had my niece and nephew for the day, I love the ages groups and how close they are in age.
My niece – Sept 2008
Austin – Mar 2009
Brookland – May 2011
My nephew – Sept 2011
Makes me wish we were going to be staying here instead of moving, but only a little.

  • 1/2 tsp toothpaste (cream)
  • 1 tsp white glue
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp water

Mix this until it starts to form a ball, then use your hands to pull and knead at it, the more you work it the better it will be.

Next time I’ll be getting her to work it with her hands, that is the messy part of this, to sticks to your hands quite badly and then it all sticks back into a ball, but there was a time while mixing it that I wasn’t really loving it.

My niece commented a couple times that it smelled like gum, so we made sure to remind them that it wasn’t for eating.

It hardens very quickly, you can work some water into it to soften it up again.
