Making Your Own Cleaners

Since the post I wrote the other week about the cleaners I made and gave to my SIL I have had a number of people mention about making their own or asking for my recipes. I have posted some recipes that I have used but over the past year or so since I started I have changed my recipes and/or products that I use.

Laundry Detergent

• 3 tbsp borax
• 3 tbsp washing soda
• 2 tbsp Dawn (any scent you’d like)
• 4 cups hot water

Mix it in a jug or bottle, shake it well. I use 1/4 – 1/2 cup per load. I have been using the lavender scented, love it.

Bathroom Cleaner

• 1 cup white vinegar
• 1/4 Dawn

I microwave the vinegar for 1 minute pour into a spray bottle, add the Dawn and spray down my bathroom.

Bonus heating the vinegar in the microwave loosens any stuck on food in your microwave making it super easy to wipe it clean.

All Purpose Cleaner

• 2 cups hot water
• 1/2 tsp washing soda
• 2 tsp borax
• 2 tbsp lemon juice
• 1 tbsp vinegar

Mix in a spray bottle.

Dishwasher Detergent

• 3/4 cup washing soda
• 1/2 cup borax
•  1/8 cup Tang (juice mix)
• 1/4 cup dishwasher detergent **optional** I don’t usually use it but not everyone has good results without it.

Vinegar in your Jet Dry spot instead of dishing out the extra.

Stain Remover

• 1 part Dawn
• 1 part Baking Soda
• 2 parts Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix and spread of the stain. Works great!

You can also check my recipes for Fabric Softener & Freshener. I don’t use either anymore, we stopped using fabric softener when I stopped using my dryer.

Total: I haven’t figured out the cost to make each of the recipes but if you’d like to figure it then go for it and let me know!
